Fatwa Issued Against Thalapathy Vijay Over Alleged Anti-Muslim Remarks and Iftar Controversy

Thalapathy Vijay , the popular Tamil actor and leader of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), is facing backlash after a fatwa was issued against him by a Sunni Muslim organization. Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi , President of the All India Muslim Jamaat and Chief Mufti of Chashme Darul Ifta, issued the fatwa from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. He accused Vijay of anti-Muslim actions, including scenes from his film Beast , where Muslims were allegedly linked to terrorism. The controversy deepened after Vijay hosted an Iftar event in Chennai on March 8. Critics, including members of Tamil Nadu’s Sunnat Jamath, claim the event involved non-fasting attendees and “drunkards,” sparking outrage in the community. A formal police complaint was filed on March 11. Maulana Razvi advised Muslims to distance themselves from Vijay and avoid including him in religious events.
